The team is split between looking after the needs of our existing clients as well as developing relationships with new prospects, with this role focused primarily on business development.

We work with a diverse range of leading asset managers and asset owners in developing and implementing tailored responsible investment strategies. The team operates in a lively, collaborative and supportive environment, where each day is different.


This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to be part of Sustainalytics’ growth story, focusing on the German, Austrian and Swiss markets (DACH region). We are looking for an experienced business development professional to take the lead on key opportunities. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate across all areas of Sustainalytics and to work with the Client Relations team globally to grow our market presence. Your clear understanding of our clients and prospects and their business drivers will be the key to success. This role has a strong emphasis on relationship development with clients and prospects and you will be an ambassador for Sustainalytics from early on.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Play a key role in developing and implementing the German, Austrian and Swiss business development strategy;
  • Grow and maintain a robust sales pipeline by:
    • Taking ownership of and successfully closing incoming opportunities
    • Responding to requests for proposals
    • Identifying and developing new opportunities and markets
  • Act as a trusted advisor to institutional investors on how to apply Responsible Investment strategies and incorporate our products and services;
  • Stay on top of market developments, identify and share product innovation opportunities;
  • Represent the company at industry events and conferences as well as public speaking engagements;
  • Build, maintain and extend professional networks;
  • Further develop ESG and investment industry knowledge.

We work daily with colleagues in our other European offices as well as in the US and Canada, so the desire to work very closely with a diverse team from many different cultures is critical to working at Sustainalytics.


The ideal candidate needs to be an ambitious team player who can both succeed individually, as well as reaching goals through close collaboration with other team members. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated passion for sustainability and an alignment with Sustainalytics’ mission, vision and values;
  • Minimum 2-6 years of financial services, responsible investment, or sustainability-related work experience.
  • Degree in a related discipline (business, finance, environment and/or social sciences);
  • Strong client servicing and commercial skills;
  • Ability to take the initiative and think creatively and proactively;
  • As natural story teller and clear communicator, you can understand and present complex products in an engaging way;
  • Experience in consultative selling.
  • English & German fluency (essential), other languages are desirable;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the investment industry and the use of ESG research;
  • A proven track record in selling to senior executives on both the buy and sell side;
  • Genuine team player, who operates with a high level of integrity and enjoys working collaboratively within a highly diverse and international work environment;
  • Flexibility to travel;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint;
