Our newly rebranded Sustainable Finance Solutions (SFS) team marks an innovative company development aligned with emerging market trends in the Green Finance realm. Our mandate is to provide assessments and analysis to financial institutions and corporates, allowing investors and lenders to evaluate the sustainability performance of both issuers and issuances. Our services include green/social/sustainability bond second-party opinions, annual compliance reviews, ESG ratings, and lender frameworks, among other projects.

As the leading external reviewer of Sustainability Bond frameworks, our team has supported well over 100 innovative social and environmental issuances, resulting in meaningful sustainability impacts. POSITION PURPOSE & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This new position represents an exciting opportunity to assume a leading commercial role in a growing team and company. The candidate will lead commercial activities for the SFS team in Japan, in Sustainalytics’ mission to remain the leading provider of sustainability solutions for the finance industry.

The core responsibility is to engage with potential customers and their intermediaries to integrate sustainable finance solutions into their product offering. The candidate will be responsible for managing and expanding our relationships with leading global underwriters, lenders and corporates, turning qualified opportunities into sales.

As the face of Sustainalytics in the Japanese Sustainable Financing market, the candidate will need to quickly assume external profile through speaking opportunities, networking and engagement in market development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to and implementing the SFS business development strategy with responsibility for Japan;
  • Act as a trusted advisor to underwriters and lenders on how to integrate sustainable finance solutions into their product offering;
  • Grow and maintain a robust sales pipeline both by self and through performance management of sales staff when hired in the future;
  • Respond and organize responses to requests for proposals;
  • Stay on top of market developments, identify and share product innovation opportunities;
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking groups;
  • Provide back-up for staff to assure client coverage across APAC;
  • Build, maintain and extend professional networks;
  • Further develop ESG and Sustainable Finance industry knowledge; and
  • Manage staff appointed to your team (in the future).

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate needs to be a genuine team player who can reach objectives individually, as well as through close collaboration and coordination with other team members, based on Sustainalytics’ relationship-focused consultative sales philosophy. The candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Alignment with Sustainalytics’ mission, vision and values;
  • Sales experience (1-2 years requisite, 3+ highly desired);
  • Japanese and English fluency required;
  • Previous success in new business development and prospecting;
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable finance;
  • Experience in the finance sector required, understanding of debt capital markets and, or corporate finance highly desirable;
  • 5-8+ years related work experience; several years of management experience;
  • Commercial mindset, innovative and entrepreneurial;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills;
  • Mandarin skills a bonus;
  • Ability to travel occasionally to Sustainalytics offices and financial centres required; and
  • A related degree (finance, business desired).
