The Sustainable Finance Solutions (SFS) Team is a rapid growth business that is responsible for developing and bringing ESG products to multi-national corporations and financial institutions. Our services include green/social/sustainability bond second-party opinions, annual compliance reviews, and other services that help our clients to provide sustainability insights to investors and lenders. As an exciting new role on the Sustainable Finance Solutions (SFS) team, the EU Taxonomy Associate will contribute to the development and implementation of guidance material for Sustainalytics’ new research on the alignment of corporate activities with the EU Taxonomy. Given the rapid growth and sophistication of the sustainable finance market, taxonomies play a critical role in supporting analysis of the contribution of business activities and financial instruments to major environmental objectives. The SFS taxonomy team has developed expertise in this area by reviewing hundreds of sustainability bond frameworks, while engaging in consultations on the EU Taxonomy and other key regional initiatives. The next step is to expand this mandate beyond the SFS team to support strategic company-wide priorities.

Key elements of this new role will include developing guidance on Technical Requirements and Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) criteria in accordance with the EU Taxonomy for activities-based research. While the primary focus of the role will be on developing and implementing the EU taxonomy guidance, the Associate may also be called upon to support other customized projects on the SFS taxonomy team as needed.


  • Contribute to the development and application of the EU taxonomy guidance in accordance with market standards and expectations;
  • Ensure that the guidance is managed/updated in a systematic and timely manner, and well-supported in its application.
  • Assess outcomes of pilot testing of guidance to ensure that it yields meaningful results;
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders across different teams to ensure alignment with product requirements;
  • Support research analysts in applying the guidance and providing feedback/support as needed;
  • Provide relevant training to research analysts on the EU taxonomy guidance;
  • Develop expertise in EU taxonomy and related regulatory developments, alongside the sustainable finance market;
  • Develop sustainability knowledge and expertise across a variety of themes and sectors with an emphasis on environmental metrics; and
  • Liaise with and develop relationships with colleagues across global teams and offices.


  • Excellent English business writing skills;
  • Strong ability to analyze and interpret data/information, while maintaining a critical approach;
  • Passion for sustainability and demonstrated interest in sustainable finance;
  • 2-4 years of related work experience;
  • Degree in related discipline (sustainability/environmental studies and/or engineering);
  • Technical expertise related to environmental science/sustainability is an asset;
  • Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn in a constantly evolving and fast-paced environment;
  • Accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills;
